Twenty-two months after retirement and sixteen months after giving birth to son Vincent, former doubles No.1 Barbora Strycova is announcing a comeback to professional tennis, which was her plan from the start.

The 2019 Wimbledon doubles champion shared on social media a video collage of her tennis practices and intense gym trainings, with the caption:

See you on courts in summer. Again.

On Twitter, Strycova tagged the WTA in her post, leading us to believe that it’s not a comeback just for an exhibition match. Tiebreak Tennis reveals that Strycova’s goal is to play again in front of fans, as she was forced to retire due to pregnancy during the pandemic and had no opportunity to have a proper farewell.

In May 2021, Strycova ended her career with the following words:

Even through all the pain, tears, renunciation and sweat, all the great moments and victories were worth it! I never planned to end my career during a pandemic. However, some moments in life just can’t be planned and I am super excited for my next life role as a mom.

According to Tiebreak Tennis, it was during the 2021 Australian Open quarantine that Strycova found out she was expecting a baby with her long-term partner Petr Matejcek. Now, the Czech WTA player is ready to experience crowd support at least one more time:

I would like to come back and play one more match in front of the audience. I want to feel the energy from the audience and the club again. I don’t care if it’s a real match or an exhibition. The main thing is that the fans are there.

The last tournament Strycova played was the 2021 Australian Open. We still don’t know where the 36-year-old will play in 2023, but there are speculations that it could be Wimbledon or the Prague Open.

  1. She was not registered in ITF retired players list so no wonder she is back, she can come back any time without cooldown 6months
I doubt about WCs because she did not come back in time I believe so, as well about PR rankings
