Naomi Osaka is tired of people scrutinizing her tennis career, especially now that she’s on a pregnancy leave. In her latest tweet, the four-time Grand Slam champion invites the public to shift the focus to male athletes who have kids and are way less accomplished than her.
The 25-year-old Osaka, who is due to give birth to her first child in June or July, takes a stand against critics questioning her tennis future.
“Btw to the people that are suddenly concerned about my career — There are plenty of male athletes with kids that are significantly less accomplished, you might wanna worry about them instead,” the former world No.1 tweeted. “Thanks for the concern, might wanna redirect it to someone that needs it though.”
“Not trying to make this a male and female thing but let’s be fr,” she added.
The Japanese WTA player plans to return to competition in January 2024. The mom-to-be has ambitious goals, to add eight more major titles to her biography. She hasn’t played a tennis match since last September at the Toray Pan Pacific Open.
Osaka is expecting a child with long-term boyfriend Cordae. Judging by the baby’s shoe collection, we assume that it will be a boy, but the gender is being kept a secret because the daddy himself wants to learn it once the baby is born.
