Nike impresses with 2021 Australian Open tennis collection

Nike-sponsored WTA players Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina and many others will sport the brand’s new Melbourne collection at the 2021 Australian Open. The gorgeous new items feature earthy tones, bright trims, colorblocks and technical details. It looks like the Spring 2021 apparel that I showed you in late December will take the back seat.

What’s your first impression? I think this is Nike’s best collection in years. I love every single piece and every single detail. The designs are inspired by Nike’s outdoor All Conditions Gear.

The Nike Spring Slam Melbourne Tank and the Nike Spring Melbourne Skirt mixes colors parachute beige, wild berry, bright mango and obsidian (navy). The tank includes a cutout in the front and thick crisscross back straps with an O ring. The pleated skirt has a diagonal cut, which exposes the camo print built-in shortie and contrast color side pocket. The skirt’s colorblocking follows the asymmetrical hemline.

The color combinations and technical details of the Nike Spring Melbourne Dress draw inspiration from heritage Nike ACG style. The mock-neck dress includes a number of features that all work together to maximize ventilation: quarter-length zipper, cutout in the back, mesh panels, and stretchy knit fabric with Dri-FIT technology.

All of the above-mentioned products perfectly match the Nike Spring Melbourne Jacket, which combines a camo print, earthy tones and orange pops of color. One feature that stands out here is that you can carry this jacket on your shoulders when you’re not wearing it, thanks to inner straps with an adjustable buckle.

Nike’s tennis shoes for the 2021 Australian Open are updated with purple camo and silver accents, such as these Air Zoom Vapor Cage 4 and Air Zoom GP Turbo models.

The Nike Melbourne collection is available at both Tennis Warehouse USA and Tennis Warehouse Europe.

  1. Paul, not at all, in my opinion. Venus’ dress had a chest cutout, the Nike tank has a cutout below chest. Also, the colors are not similar — Venus’ dress was navy, but the overall vibe was different. The Nike dress slightly reminds me of Adidas by Stella McCartney designs because of colorblocks.

  2. I kinda love the designs, not so much with the front zipper on a dress
And colors are amazing, but that parachute beige is really off trying to blend with other bright colors.

Btw I guess Nike Maria on court collection is discontinued?

  3. Ian, I’m all for these unconventional combinations such as this beige with purple and vibrant orange.

It looks like there’s no Maria line any more. It makes sense for it to be discontinued, since she can’t promote the dresses at tournaments.

  4. So all Nike athletes will be wearing this collection except Serena as she never wears the same. I dislike that you have to wait until she walks out on court to see what she wears. I always look forward to her fashion statements.

  5. Well… when was the last time I really liked a Nike kit? My favorite AO one so far!
The separates are great too: Simona’s (see IG post) looks stunning in it!

  6. Anna, it used to be available at Tennis Warehouse at the time I wrote this article. I can only assume that they will have it back in stock. I checked the Nike website and it’s not available there either. You’ll have to be patient.

  7. Very unflattering tops. Why would Nike make the women look like they are wearing a white inner tube across their chests..Bad Design!!!!

  8. SO hard to find the dress to purchase in any sizes in the UK. Anyone know anywhere? Thank you in advance!
