The long-standing WTA tournament in Charleston will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2022. The grand occasion will be even more special as a newly-renovated tennis stadium will be unveiled.

The 2022 Credit One Open, formerly known as the Volvo Car Open, will take place from April 2 to April 10 on Daniel Island in Charleston, South Carolina. The largest women’s-only tennis tournament in North America will feature more than 100 top WTA players and welcome back fans for the first time since 2019.

Expanded and modernized Credit One Open stadium will offer 3,500 additional seats (a total of 11,000), 16 fully conditioned permanent suites, all-new concessions, and more bathrooms.

A major improvement is a 75,000-square-foot Stage House with a partial roof that will provide partial shade for attendees. The Stage House will transform the stadium experience for players, performers, journalists and special guests, offering locker rooms, a gym, training facilities, production and media space, catering services and a VIP rooftop restaurant and outdoor bar.

The tournament has been a pioneer in women’s professional sports since 1973, paving the path for female tennis players to receive equal recognition, respect and pay in the sport. Originally held on Hilton Head Island, the event moved to Charleston in 2001 and is played on Daniel Island at the LTP Daniel Island tennis center, home to the Credit One Stadium.

The nine-day tennis event showcases a singles draw of 56 players, a qualifying draw of 32 players and a doubles draw of 16 players. The WTA 500 tournament, which now has a new title sponsor, traditionally hosts more than 90,000 attendees on Daniel Island.
