It’s official now: Canada’s Leylah Fernandez is sponsored by Lululemon.
As the 19-year-old played her first tournament of the 2022 season in Adelaide, we noticed that she was no longer wearing Asics clothes. Upon closer inspection, a subtle Lululemon logo revealed itself. Now we have the confirmation from the 2021 US Open runner-up, who wrote on social media:
I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be training, playing, and living in Lululemon from here on out. What should I wear at the Australian Open?
Talking to Forbes, the Montreal-born Fernandez said that Lululemon was the most desirable brand while she was growing up, so it’s now a dream come true to become a face of that sportswear company. The WTA star will help Lululemon focus more on tennis and spread its presence in the sport.
In the early days of this Canadian partnership, Fernandez will continue to wear Asics tennis shoes, but later on she’s expected to also introduce Lululemon footwear to the world of tennis professionals.
Fernandez is Lululemon’s first global ambassador in tennis. For quite some time Lululemon has been preparing its first tennis-specific capsule collection for both women and men, while the launch is planned for this spring.
I’m so glad I was wrong 🙂 It’s refreshing that some young players have deals with smaller brands (thinking about Gauff/NB).
Gavrilova also wear Lululemon, doesn’t she?
Zeleia, you’re right. Gavrilova (actually Saville) wears Lululemon now as well. She announced the partnership in December: https://womenstennisblog.com/2021/12/11/daria-gavrilova-lululemon/
Congrats Leylah !
