Less than a year after giving birth to her son Adyn, Taylor Townsend is lifting a tennis trophy at the $25K UTR Pro Tennis Tour tournament in Bradenton, Florida.

During an Instagram live in August last year, the 25-year-old Townsend revealed that she was preparing for a comeback in the period between March and May 2022. The return to competition happened within the expected time frame and the American managed to win her first tournament back after maternity leave. Townsend defeated Switzerland’s Chelsea Fontenel in Sunday’s final of the Bradenton event 6-2 6-0.

The triumph is an even bigger achievement when we consider that Townsend suffered from postpartum depression, which she managed to overcome with professional help.

The former world No.61, currently ranked No.492, explains her current feelings on Instagram, while sharing a photo from her late pregnancy and a photo with her baby boy:

This time last year, I was preparing to have a child. Uncertain of my personal and professional future, I took a leap of faith to see where life was going to lead me! Fast forward a year, I won my first tournament back with my son cheering me on from his stroller. This is the most special and memorable trophy I’ve ever earned! This one is for you, Adyn, my love!

American WTA players Jessica Pegula, Shelby Rogers, and Alison Riske-Amritraj were the first to publicly congratulate Taylor Townsend on her achievement.
