Michaella Krajicek is qualified to become the next tennis representative in the SI Swimsuit Issue. The WTA player whose injuries have prevented her from having a much more decorated career is increasingly active on Instagram and she’s posting more and more sexy bikini photos.
The half-sister of former world No.4 and Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek reached the 2007 Wimbledon quarterfinals and a career-high singles ranking of No.30 in February 2008, but injuries and surgeries have prevented her from catching a break and right now she’s a rare topic in the tennis world. Her WTA profile states that she played one ITF tournament in singles in 2019, losing in the first round of qualifying, and four doubles tournaments, one of which was at the WTA level, the Libema Open in her home country of the Netherlands.
While her tennis is on the sidelines, the 31-year-old Krajicek is using social media to update us on her life and to show us that she looks better than ever.
In 2017, after two years of marriage, Krajicek divorced her long-time partner Martin Emmrich, who had famously proposed to her in front of the crowd at the 2014 Topshelf Open in s’-Hertogenbosch. Her ex-husband soon remarried (he tied the knot with former top 200 WTA player Tamaryn Hendler), while Krajicek continued to live in their Prague apartment and revealed in one interview: “Ironically, now I have a nursery at home, but he has another girlfriend with whom he is engaged and with whom he now expects a child.”
Luckily, Michaella wasn’t unlucky in love for too long. Now she’s blossoming by Jelle Sels, a 24-year-old Dutch tennis player currently ranked No.378 on the ATP Tour. His career-high ranking was No.260 in December 2018.
Nowadays, Krajicek enjoys painting and even auctions off some of her work, but she’ll always struggle with a lot of “what ifs” when she thinks about her tennis career. Here’s her quote from one interview in 2016:
I have to say when I look back on my career, normally I get pretty emotional about it. What if I had had better health? And sometimes I ask myself questions like, could I have prevented it? With my knee, I couldn’t have because I was born with, like, a bigger meniscus. So they would have had to do surgery anyway but it tore off by itself when I was playing.
Besides painting, Michaella likes to spend time on the beach and is now challenging WTA colleague Sloane Stephens in the bikini shots category.
Maybe someone from the SI Swimsuit Issue will take note and invite the Dutchwoman to be featured in the next issue? So far we’ve had Eugenie Bouchard, Sloane Stephens, Ana Ivanovic, Caroline Wozniacki, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, and other WTA stars in the famous annual photoshoot by American magazine Sports Illustrated.
Here are a few more recent photos of Michaella in swimwear.
