Anett Kontaveit‘s year was marked by her impressive late season, last-minute qualification for the WTA Finals, where she finished runner-up to Garbine Muguruza, and the Top 10 debut. Let’s see what the Estonian wore during her most successful career year, as part of our Fashion Retrospections.
At the early January’s Abu Dhabi WTA Women’s Tennis Open, Kontaveit wore items from the 2020 New York collection: the Lacoste SPORT Colorblock Stretch Tennis Tank Top, a light blue piece with side colorblocks in different colors, and a white asymmetrically pleated skirt.
Subtle colorblocks styled with white pleated skirts characterized Lacoste outfits throughout the 2021 tennis season.
The world No.7 Kontaveit’s Australian Open look included a polo with neatly placed stripes.
In Miami, Montreal and Cincinnati, Kontaveit paired her go-to white pleated skirt with a V-neck racerback tank that is white on the front and green on the back.
As you can see, the green back features a stylish keyhole cutout and a white mesh inset underneath.
In Stuttgart and later in the season en route to the Cleveland title, Kontaveit wore another version of the tank, red on the front and white on the back.
The 25-year-old’s Lacoste Spring Dress in Madrid nurtured a similar style with mesh insets at neckline, upper back and bottom skirt.
At Roland Garros, the Estonian debuted the Lacoste Player RG Dress with yellow accents. The item features a stretchy V-neck and V-shaped straps on the back.
The dress has a built-in bra with removable pads and jacquard mesh on the body for ventilation.
En route to the Eastbourne final, Kontaveit rocked a variety of well-known white silhouettes.
The Estonian’s footwear choice is the NikeCourt Air Zoom Vapor Cage 4 model.
Kontaveit’s outfit at Wimbledon included a tight long-sleeve mock-neck top.
I don’t have a photo of Kontaveit’s Tokyo Olympics fashion, but once again she wore a simple white polo and a pleated white skirt.

At the US Open, Lacoste delivered a wonderful execution of vintage style with a subtle houndstooth pattern featured in the classy green tennis dress. The dress has teddy style contrast folded collar with concealed zippered fastening, contrast elasticized waistband and striped slit on the front.
Kontaveit won three WTA titles in this burgundy Lacoste Fall Tennis Polo Tank and navy Lacoste Fall Tennis Skirt. The tank features a subtle houndstooth pattern and a breathable mesh back panel. Its ribbed collar matches the striped slit on the right side of the skirt.
For her WTA Finals debut, Kontaveit chose the green version of the Lacoste Fall Tennis Polo Tank and Skirt. Striped details enhance the vintage feel of the outfit.
What do you think about Lacoste women’s apparel? In my opinion, this was their best year so far and Anett is a great representative. I’ve always admired Lacoste’s less-is-more approach. They stick to traditional designs and add subtle details that give a contemporary feel to outfits.
