French Open semifinals in PHOTOS + Ana Ivanovic’s retirement ceremony

On Thursday we had two WTA semifinals on the Philippe Chatrier Court at Roland Garros, the one in which young phenomenon Jelena Ostapenko defeated fellow birthday girl Timea Bacsinszky and the one in which Simona Halep beat Karolina Pliskova, placing herself just a match away from her first Grand Slam title and the No.1 ranking.

In-between the big semifinals, we saw Ana Ivanovic at the French Open again, albeit for a ceremony honoring the 2008 champion’s tennis career. The retired tennis star was glowing! She must be enjoying her new life!

  1. It was fun to see Ana again in Philippe Chatrier. She deserves the honor and formal retirement ceremony. I love her simplicity and elegance. I miss that smile on her face. The trophy was also a reminder that she once ruled the clay courts of Roland Garros. She’s truly one of the legend in Roland Garros.

  2. In the words of legendary Prince Rogers Nelson: “Could it be, the most beautiful girl in the world?” Anna, so beautiful as usual! On another note, go get that title, Jelena O. A set a piece thus far; it’s just around the bend, so hang in there, champ! Sorry, Simona, but I’m rooting for Jelena this time around. Proud of you for making it this far, however. I can’t wait for Serena to return to the game. A Jelena/Serena match would be a dream come true.

  3. And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
