Maria Sharapova’s much-discussed US Open comeback came to an end on Sunday as the 2006 champion lost her fourth-round match to Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova in three sets. In the night session, Petra Kvitova stunned the crowd inside Arthur Ashe Stadium with a spectacular straight-set win over Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza.   1. Congrats to Petra, a true champ! Marija, there is a typing error in the line beginning with “In the night session….”. It looks like Petra won over herself :))) which she probably did, in a way but actually, it’s Muguruza who’s out.

  2. Watched a good chunk of the Petra/Garbine match! A good fight from both. A shame for Garbine especially since she was leading, but I’m so happy for Petra. Would love to see her in the final (also happy with Venus though of course 🙂 )

  3. Claire, I’ve fixed it. Jimmie48 posts these galleries after his very busy days at tournament sites, so errors creep in here and there, while I always re-edit the texts a bit later. 🙂

    C, the match was spectacular. How Petra recovered from a 4-1 deficit in the first set and Garbine even had a break point for 5-1!

  4. Very happy for Petra! She played some amazing tennis and made a spectacular comeback. Just the look on Garbine’s face let me know she was in trouble. “Go, Petra Kvitova!”
