Coco Gauff, already etched in WTA history following her triumph at the US Open, isn’t just a force on the court; the American is making her mark on the tennis fashion landscape with her vibrant on-court ensembles and signature sneakers. As part of our Fashion Retrospections, let’s delve into the style journey of the highest-paid female athlete, showcasing her dynamic New Balance apparel during the 2023 season.
Gauff kicked off her spectacular 2023 season in style, clinching the champion’s trophy at the ASB Classic in Auckland while donning striking black and white separates from New Balance. Although I don’t possess a photo of her during the tournament, I do have Tennis Warehouse close-ups showcasing her outfit.
The ensemble comprised the New Balance Core Tournament Tank in white, adorned with a jacquard rib detail at the neckline and a keyhole cutout at the mid-back. Paired with this was the New Balance Core Tournament Skirt, distinguished by its eye-catching contrast side stripe.
During the Australian Open, Gauff continued to sport her Auckland outfit in doubles competition, while in singles she debuted a striking white tank unique for its egg-shaped cutouts on the sides.
At the tournaments in Doha and Dubai, Gauff maintained a consistent aesthetic reminiscent of her Auckland attire. However, there was a subtle variation as she opted for a tank in a stone pink hue.
During the Sunshine Swing, Gauff debuted a vibrant orange iteration of her tried-and-true tank, which she once again paired with the New Balance Core Tournament Skirt.
Adding to the allure of her ensemble were the CG1 tennis shoes, this time inspired by elements like pineapples, roses, and dragonflies — the colorway called Neon Lights.
As the claycourt season started, Gauff introduced the black version of the same old New Balance Core Tournament Tank and the New Balance Summer Tournament Skirt, a blue stretch woven design featuring a vertical side stripe accent.
When the weather was cold, Gauff kept herself warm in a zipper top adorned with a fishnet print.
The same color scheme was Gauff’s choice for Roland Garros, only that this time her top was cropped and her skirt had horizontal stripes along the hemline.
Her CG1 kicks in Paris were in the Twisted Net colorway.
At Wimbledon, Gauff sported an elegant all-white dress by New Balance.
As the hardcourt swing commenced in the United States, Gauff debuted the red New Balance Tournament Tank from the Fall collection. Consistent with her style in 2023, the tank featured the distinctive zig-zag detail at the neckline. She paired this striking top with a complementary burgundy skirt.
The highlight of her outfit was the latest City Brights colorway of her signature Coco CG1 tennis shoe.
At the end of the season, including the WTA Finals in Cancun, Gauff sported a grey crop top paired with New Balance’s black Fall Tournament Novelty Skirt. This skirt boasts breathable, perforated micro pleats, and a chic laser-cut hemline that adds a unique touch to her look.
The 19-year-old’s sneakers in Mexico were in the black and purple palette.
As the curtains draw on the 2023 tennis season, one thing remains undeniable: Coco Gauff’s influence extends beyond her exceptional gameplay. What do you think about her New Balance outfits?
