Marta Kostyuk‘s Wilson fashion made an impression at the 2024 BNP Paribas Open, where she reached her first WTA 1000 semifinal. The Ukrainian shared insights into her active role in the design process, highlighting the level of input she has in shaping her distinctive on-court look.

Kostyuk made news in January last year when she was announced as Wilson’s first complete ambassador representing the brand across rackets, footwear, and clothing. The Chicago-based manufacturer describes her title as “Advisory Staff” and the description matches how the 21-year-old former Nike player describes the relationship.

During the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, the Ukrainian stood out against a see of pink Nike dresses and black-and-white Adidas looks. She easily takes on an active role in balancing the style and performance of her clothes: “I don’t feel like it’s something difficult for me to do, because I’m very open and I say right away, ‘listen, this is too short, this is too light,’ and so on and so on.”

The collaboration starts ahead of the tennis season: “I have a file of things that will be throughout the year, and then if they want some specific pieces, for example, I tried them on, and then we work around it for the fit to be better and what to remove, what to add and so on.”

The No.32 ranked player sees this close work as a privilege she didn’t have in previous relationships with sponsors: “When I had contracts with other companies, I didn’t participate as much, not even close. So that feels great, because yeah I have to compete in it. I obviously wanted to look good too.”

Not only does Kostyuk compete and train in the Wilson kits, she wears them out on the town as well. She told the media, “A lot of dresses, you can wear them even outside. There are some dresses that I just wear to go out for dinner or whatever. It’s very cool, because you can do both, in a way. I think that’s very beautiful for the sport and very elegant.”

The tennis star’s takeaway is simple: “I’m very happy with, like, general fits and the looks. I hope people buy and look great and enjoy.”
