Sofia Kenin, Karolina Pliskova to debut Fila’s Wildcard collection in New York

Fila‘s Wildcard collection set to be worn by Sofia Kenin and Karolina Pliskova at the 2021 US Open introduces modern takes on styles of the past with a variety of high-neck designs and a mystifying color palette of rattan / dusk blue / stucco / black and moonlight.

This first promo image shows the world number five Kenin in the Fila Wildcard Dress, highlighted by a large back cutout and flatlock stitching at the front and back. A neat tonal Fila tennis ball logo is placed at left chest. The dress comes with a matching shortie and integrated bra with removable pads.

Here we can see the American in the Fila Wildcard Racerback Tank, an activewear classic available in three distinct color styles: black, dusk blue and white with contrast piping on front and back. The 12.5 inch Side Wrap Skort features a printed undershort and is offered in dusk blue / moonlight / black.

The Wildcard collection includes two additional skort styles — the 13.5 inch Flirt Skort and 14.5 inch Scoop Skort — both with contrast color piping and a rubber Fila tennis ball logo. The above left photo shows the latter, paired with the Fila Wildcard Full Coverage Tank that has a print inset at the neckline.

The Fila Wildcard Highneck Tank, shown above right, stands out with its delicately printed front and back yoke and contrast piping on one side. The design is available in this beige tone, in black with blue inset at neckline, and in white.

The Fila Wildcard Short Sleeve Top feels soft and features mesmerizing printed side panels under the arm.

The Wildcard apparel is complemented with the limited-edition white / black / stucco style of the Axilus 2 Energized tennis shoe.

  1. This is my favorite product line out of all the brands that have issued US Open outfits. The Wild Card Dress has a very interesting / unique design. I like that there is a corresponding men’s outfit (color / pattern match for the light blue, black, and gold). Hopefully the built in bra is supportive enough… with the wide open back, wearing an extra bra underneath won’t fit with the design very well. I’ll try to update this post based on how it looks in person.

  2. I like the dark blue, light blue and white and the dress but that “rattan” won’t suit anyone. And an integrated bra is only suitable for someone who is small.

  3. Cat, this is definitely the most unique line. Very retro romantic, feminine. I especially like the dress that Sofia is wearing in this pic. Please do share your updates here if you try it.

CLT, I also prefer these black and white and blue contrasts. I feel that these nude tones would look good on darker skin tones.

  4. Marija, the Wild Card dress looks even better in person than on the tennis-warehouse website! The design is so unique. Definitely one of my favorites in terms of appearance. The main downside is that the built in shelf bra has no support. Basically can’t play tennis using just the built in bra. I found a cross back black bra that at least doesn’t show on the front but you can see the crosses in the back. I will keep looking for a bra that only has vertical straps, in the hopes that it won’t show (much).
The quality control isn’t that great… the gold contrast piping on the side seam is misaligned. Oh well, what can you expect from Fila.

The matching men’s outfit has the same light blue and black color… but oddly, the contrast striping is a different color than the women’s outfit. The one on the dress is gold. The one on the men’s outfit looks like it is Gold in the photos but in person it is orange. Just wish they kept it the same. It’s in the same product line, why use another color? This saves them fabric too! Oh well, close enough 😉

So far my favorite matching mens and womens outfit is the Nike Roland Garros 2021 outfit in purple.

The fit of the dress is great and the fabric is the same for the womens and mens outfits. It also doesn’t have any built in bras so you can’t wear anything underneath, so in terms of comfort, it is also the best out of the matching outfits.

  5. Cat, thanks for this detailed feedback. I’m glad to hear that the Fila dress is just as beautiful in person. It’s a pity that a bra would have to be visible, although so many WTA players have worn that similar open back style with a bra peeking through.

The Nike collection for Roland Garros was probably the best collection in the past 10 years. Glamorous, elegant and timeless.

  6. Djole, I guess they know what they’re doing. I also get lost in the new layout at times, but I suppose I will get used to it quickly.
