Some time ago a reader sent me a photo of Ana Ivanovic, taken way back in August, showing the Serb practicing in a new Adidas design, which we can now safely say will be one of clothing items the company’s representatives will wear at the 2016 Australian Open.
How do I know that this will be the style of choice of Adidas’ players? Because Kristina Mladenovic confirmed it on Twitter in response to her fans who posted this photo of the kit.
The predominantly red Adidas Spring Adizero Dress is characterized by rectangular colorblocks in the shades of red and grey. These Barricade Classic Bounce red shoes complete the look and Adidas believes them to be the most comfortable and stable Barricade to date.
What are your first impressions? I think that this new collection will not beat the 2015 Melbourne Adizero clothes, one of my all-time favorites. I am not a huge fan of this rectangular print, even though the dress is not bad overall. The shoes are cute!
CHECK OUT WHAT OTHER WTA STARS WILL SPORT AT THE 2016 AUSTRALIAN OPEN:
- Jelena Jankovic, Yaroslava Shvedova: Fila print echoes flying tennis balls
- Victoria Azarenka: Green and white Nike tank + shorts combo
- Eugenie Bouchard: Ombre stripes for visual appeal, Nike Dri-Fit mesh for comfort
- Serena Williams: Nike introduces crop tops, yellow from head to toe
- Maria Sharapova: Pure athleticism in the Russian’s new Nike dress
- Venus Williams: EleVen finds inspiration in brushstrokes
- Simona Halep: Adidas‘ red and blue separates, the word “tennis” spelled out in the print
- Caroline Wozniacki: Orange and sand colorblocks in the Adidas Spring Stella McCartney Tour Dress
- Monica Puig, Sloane Stephens: Ellesse & Under Armour tennis styles for the Australian Open
It could have been a great dress for US Open or for Indian Wells – Miami. Overall, very safe design but it looks good on Ana anyway.
Emman Damian, good suggestion. It would be awesome for Miami – IW. I think the print should’ve been more innovative for the AO. But OK, let’s wait and see it in action.
It’s a big change from the previous years styles and I like it!
The print reminds me of a tablecloth! 🙂
Is it a sheer top layer? (the white seems a bit transparent at the bottom…)
I like the coloring, but I don’t like the shapes. Seems like something I could have drawn :S
Tragic. I’m gonna go and cry now
Quite ugly and unflattering, in my opinion. They used to have some interesting designs before, what’s happened?
Sabey, it seems that you’re in the minority, but as I said in the article, I don’t find it bad, I just prefer other prints. The 2015 AO collection was perfection!
Mary, I see what you mean 😛
Liz, it does seem sheer. And if it is, I like that, as it offers a nice dimension to the dress.
Saudin, Claire, haha maybe you’ll change your mind when you see it in action. 😛
I’m a huge fan of Adidas but this one is a BIG NO for me!!
Agree with Mary, it looks just like tablecloth.
Have you see the white version of this dress? It actually looks good.
Emman Damian, I haven’t seen it. Please share the link.
I saw it on twitter. Will send it to you via DM.
Yes, there is also a white version. To me the tablecloth effect is even worse on this variant!
Mary, I’ve seen it, Emman Damian showed it to me. I actually find the white version better.
There is also WTA number 2, Simona Halep, wearing this outfit, here for a training session in the USA.

Mike, thank you for the share! I’ve just posted information about it, although using Adidas’ official promo pics as they sent me their official press release today. https://womenstennisblog.com/2015/12/10/simona-haleps-adidas-tank-and-skirt-for-the-2016-australian-open/
